Dir Premier League Aims to Become a National Brand, Showcases Tourism and Sporting Potential

DIR UPPER: The Deputy Commissioner of Dir Upper, Gaohar Zaman Mehsud, has expressed his vision to elevate the Dir Premier League into a national-level brand, highlighting the region’s potential to attract tourists from both within Pakistan and beyond its borders. This ambitious goal was shared during the opening ceremony of the Dir Premier League at the Dir Stadium on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gaohar Zaman Mehsud emphasized that the picturesque area of Dir Upper possesses the allure to not only bolster tourism and economic activity but also uncover latent talent within the region. The event is anticipated to harness the natural beauty of the surroundings to create a platform that fosters both sportsmanship and community development.

The inauguration of the league was graced by the presence of local dignitaries, political leaders, and military officials, demonstrating the widespread support for this initiative. The league comprises eight franchises, namely Dir United, Lowari Warriors, Kashora Markhor, Katora Kings, Safari Fighters, Shahi Dragons, Kumrat Titans, and Skyland Hawks.

Aims of Dir Premier League

Organized by the District Sports Office of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the tournament serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it aims to showcase the stunning tourist attractions of the region, including mesmerizing waterfalls, lush green mountains, and flowing streams, to both the people of Pakistan and the international community. Secondly, the event seeks to promote healthy sporting activities in the area, playing a role in discouraging negative influences such as drug use.

District Sports Officer (DSO) Sadiqullah Khan, addressing the attendees, extended a warm welcome and pledged his dedication to elevating the event to new heights. The Dir Premier League is poised to not only become a showcase of sporting prowess but also a reflection of the rich cultural and natural heritage of the region.

The tournament’s matches are scheduled to commence on Thursday, setting the stage for an exciting display of talent, camaraderie, and the celebration of Dir Upper’s unique attributes.
