DPL: Pakistan’s Middle Order Batter Kamran Ghulam’s Lawari Worriers Beat Kumrat Titans

DIR UPPER: Exciting matches in Dir Premier League (DPL) are underway as Monday witnessed further nail-biting contests in different categories. The event has been organized by District Sports Dir Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where players from across the country are participating in Cricket, Football, Basketball and Volleyball.

In the Cricket, the 6th match of the event was played between Lawari Worriers and Kumrat Titans where Worrier beat Titans by 5 wickets. Lawari Worrier was led by Pakistan Test Squad and Lahore Qalandar batter Kamran Ghulam, where Titans included a number of talented players from Pakistan’s under-19 and Grade-two levels.

Earlier winning the toss Kumrat Titans scored 108 for 9 in 20 overs. Only Waqar Ahmad Managed to stay on the crease while scoring a brilliant half-century with 52 runs on 49 balls.

Chasing 110 to win, Lawari Worrier took a cautious start while losing an early wicket in the first over. Skipper Kamran Ghulam added 25 on board while facing 22 balls, however, lost his wicket in stumping on the bowling of Jawad Ahmad. Ali however secured the other end and played a responsible unbeaten knock of 36 while facing 34 deliveries including some fine strokes. Worriers won the match by 5 wickets while getting the target in 19.2 overs. Ali was declared the man of the match.

Earlier last day in another contest, Kashora Markhor outclassed Skyland Hawks by 11 runs an in exciting low-scoring game. While batting first Kashora Markhor scored 81 all out in 13.2 hours, with Abdur Razaq and Nasib Zadar scoring 23 runs each. Irfan Afridi grabbed 4 wickets while conceding 14 runs. Chasing 82 to win Skyland Hwaks were all out for 70 in 13 overs and were unable to sustain against the lovely bowling of Zaid Ahmad and Usman Maya who took 6 and 4 wickets respectively.

Besides Cricket and Football, the event also witnessed some thrilling matches of Volleyball, whereas the final of Volleyball would be played this evening between Hanif Club Azakhail and Farid Tufan Club Warhi Upper Dir. Meanwhile, the final of Basketball would be played on Thursday.

Earlier in a brief ceremony, WE News also become a media partner in the event, while gifting WE News Caps to the players of Dir United, one of the franchises in the event. Players were thankful for the gesture and played their match while wearing caps gifted by WE News.

The purpose of the mega event is to boost tourism and peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in General and in Dir Upper in Particular and to let the world know about the lush green mountains, splashing waterfalls and over a dozen of beautiful mesmerizing lakes in the northern district of Pakistan.
