Dubai to Host World’s Largest Urdu Festival

DUBAI: Dubai is set to host the world’s largest Urdu literary festival Jashn-e-Rekhta, featuring celebrities from Pakistan and India.

The cultural event a will be held on January 27 and 28, where personalities from the Urdu literary world will present poetry, participate in talk shows, sing ghazals and tell stories.

The festival will be started at Zabeel Park on January 27 with a panel discussion featuring Indian lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar and Pakistani educationist and human rights activist Arifa Sayeda Zehra.

During the event a stage rendition of Ismat Chughtai’s Urdu play titled ‘Dozakh’, will be performed. While a Sufi concert by Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan will also feature the event.

The portrayal to legendary Pakistani singer Noor Jehan will be presented by Shinjini Kulkarni, Danish Iqbal, and their troupe.

Pakistan’s film industry’s iconic couple, Sameena Peerzada and Usmaan Peerzada, will share their journey in a talk show in the first session of the second and last day of the cultural event.

On the second day an interactive session with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and veteran Indian actress Shabana Azmi will be held.

The literary fest will be concluded with a grand international mushaira featuring remounted Urdu poets.

As much as 15,000 visitors are expected to attend the festival.
