AMSTERDAM: Dutch on Saturday urged Iran to refrain from attacking Israel and to actively work towards de-escalation.

The Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot made a call to her Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, emphasizing that Iran should not attack Israel and should work towards de-escalation.

She used the social media platform X to announce her conversation with her Iranian counterpart.

“In our discussion, I also voiced serious concerns regarding the recent hijacking of a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the imperative for such actions to cease,” she wrote on X.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized a cargo ship linked to Israel in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, following Tehran’s earlier declaration of the potential closure of this vital shipping route.

This incident came in the wake of Iran’s warning of retaliation against an Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus, Syria.
