MADRID, Spain: A Dutch woman has been arrested in the Netherlands in connection with the shooting death of a right-wing Spanish politician in Madrid, Spanish police said on Tuesday.

Alejo Vidal-Quadras, the founder of Spain’s far-right party Vox, was shot in the face by a motorcyclist in broad daylight near his home in the upscale neighborhood of Salamanca on November 9.

Vidal-Quadras, 78, a longtime supporter of Iranian opposition groups, accused the Iranian regime of being involved in the shooting.

Four people have already been arrested as part of the investigation into the shooting, but the gunman, a Tunisian-French citizen with several convictions in France, remains at large.

“A woman was arrested in Holland for her alleged participation in the financing and preparation of the attack on Vidal-Quadras,” said the national police in a brief statement.

It further said she was detained after Spain issued a European arrest warrant.

Vidal-Quadras served as a member and then vice-president of the European Parliament between 1994 and 2014.

He was also a former chief of the centre-right People’s Party in Catalonia.
