ECO Summit: Pakistan’s Initiatives for Connectivity and Tourism Development

SHAHRISABZ, Uzbekistan: The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) convened its summit, where Pakistan’s proposals for enhancing airline connectivity and visa relaxation were unanimously adopted. Pakistan’s suggestions also included the involvement of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank in coordinating the ECO Tourism Advisory Committee. The meeting, chaired by Uzbekistan, acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts for human resource development and increased airline connectivity.

In Shahrisabz, the ECO Commission convened, with Uzbekistan presiding as the summit’s chair at Pakistan’s behest. A joint communiqué was issued, recommending the establishment of an ECO Advisory Committee on Tourism, incorporating suggestions from Pakistani representatives. This committee aims to enhance joint marketing efforts for promoting tourism within and beyond the region.

Subsequently, a tourism forum hosted by Uzbekistan saw participation from member states and the Secretary General of ECO. Delegations highlighted tourism attractions in their respective countries and proposed activities to boost tourism promotion. Pakistan’s representative, Salman Javaid, showcased the country’s tourism potential, infrastructure, and government initiatives, advocating for increased air links within the ECO Region.

Javaid’s suggestions for more flights between Pakistan and Uzbekistan received praise from Uzbek members. Additionally, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) was commended for its role in regional tourism promotion. The event garnered positive feedback from delegates and media representatives, projecting a favorable image of Pakistan across the region.
