ECP Dispels Secretary’s Resignation Rumors, Spokesman Confirms Medical Leave

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed rumors surrounding the resignation of its Secretary, Omar Hamid Khan, clarifying that he is currently on medical leave due to health issues and will resume his duties upon recovery.

Responding to speculations about the ECP secretary’s resignation, the commission’s spokesman affirmed that the two Special Secretaries are efficiently managing the Election Commission’s work during Omar Hamid Khan’s absence.

The Election Commission asserted that it is “fully functional” despite Secretary Omar Hamid Khan currently being on “medical rest.” Contrary to concerns about a potential crisis, the spokesman assured that the Election Commission of Pakistan continues to operate seamlessly.

ECP Fully Operational Ahead of General Elections

The statement from the electoral watchdog comes in response to rumors circulating on TV channels regarding Omar Hamid Khan’s resignation due to ill health, leading to apprehensions about the timely conduct of the February 8 general elections.

The ECP clarified that Secretary Omar Hamid Khan, recognized as an intelligent and hardworking officer, is temporarily on medical rest due to health issues. The commission assured that its offices are operational even on holidays, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to its duties.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi shared the ECP’s statement on social media platform X, urging the public to disregard rumors and affirming that the election commission is fully operational. He expressed hopes for Secretary Omar Hamid Khan’s complete and speedy recovery. He emphasized that there is no crisis within the electoral body.
