ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started removing illegal advertisement hoardings belonging to candidates vying for positions in the National and Provincial assemblies.

Nationwide monitoring teams are actively dismantling hoardings that surpass the specified limits, as confirmed by an ECP official.

In specific regions like Multan and Sialkot, monitoring teams target candidates who have violated the code of conduct by placing promotional materials.

The ECP’s Code of Conduct, issued on December 20, 2023, strictly prohibits individuals and political parties from displaying posters, handbills, pamphlets, leaflets, banners, or portraits exceeding specific dimensions.

Per the guidelines, posters should not exceed 18 inches by 23 inches, pamphlets, leaflets, and handbills should have a maximum size of 9 by 6 inches, banners should not surpass 3 by 9 feet, and portraits should be limited to 2 by 3 feet.

The ECP has established the Election Monitoring and Control Center (EMCC) at the provincial and district levels to ensure compliance and address concerns. This center operates 24/7 until the polling day concludes on February 8, utilizing social media and electronic media monitoring.

Complaints can be submitted through fax or email and are promptly handled by trained personnel. The control room constantly communicates with Returning Officers (ROs) and District Returning Officers (DROs).

Individuals can report issues via the helpline at [email protected] or WhatsApp at 0327-5050610. Additionally, a helpline at 111-327-000 is available from 8 am to 6 pm for the convenience of complainants. —APP
