ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned a crucial and important meeting to have deliberations about its next move after the PHC restored the iconic symbol (bat) for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead of the February 8 polls, reported by a private television channel here on Wednesday.

According to details, the meeting has been called to examine the recent decision of the provincial apex court and work out any possibilities of challenging the PHC order in the Supreme Court (SC). All ECP members from the provinces and center will participate in the meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Peshawar High Court nullified the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order of baring PTI using the ‘bat’ symbol for the upcoming elections in accounting for the inability to hold intra-party elections within scheduled time and fairness.

Later, lawyers from the party moved Peshawar High Court and challenged the ECP decision. Accordingly, a two-member Peshawar High Court (PHC) bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Arshad Ali issued the verdict.

Bat as Iconic Symbol for PTI

Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf has contested almost all elections (except the first one) on bat symbol, and senior leadership of the party believes they would be in a better position to contest the election on their icon bat symbol. It was the reason that soon after the decision, PTI supporters across the country, particularly in Peshawar, celebrated the decision and chanted slogans in favor of Bat and the Peshawar High Court.
