The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will announce the decision on the Toshakhana reference against former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday at 2 pm.

According to the notification issued on Thursday, the ECP has ordered all the concerned parties or their councils to appear before the election commission and its secretary in Islamabad.

The ECP also sent a letter to the Islamabad police asking for foolproof security inside and outside the house throughout the day to ‘avoid any untoward incident’.

The letter also asked for two security guards in civil and traffic police. The ECP stressed that all necessary security arrangements must be made, especially in the ECP secretariat, and that the matter was considered “urgent”.

The ECP reserved its decision in the Toshakhana case on September 19. The reference was filed against the PTI chairman by the coalition government, for not sharing details of Toshakhana’s donations and proceeds of their sale.

Established in 1974, Toshakhana is a department under the administrative control of the Cabinet Department and preserves valuable gifts given to leaders, parliamentarians, civil servants, and officers by the heads of the government and states and officials of any other country.

According to the Toshakhana law, gifts and other similar things received by people under these laws must be reported to the Cabinet department.
