Egypt Starts New Online Repatriation Service for Citizens in Gaza

CAIRO: Egypt has started a new online repatriation service for the citizens desiring to return to their country from war-hit Gaza Strip.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesman for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told media that the citizens could apply for repatriation efficiently and more swiftly through the recently launched digital process.

He added once approved, the names of successful applicants would be provided to authorities on both sides of the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip at Rafah crossing.

Egyptian ministry officials have advised the citizens to only apply for repatriation through the official government link. It warned people about the dangers of using non-official methods to enter into Egypt.

The Israeli military campaign, spanning over two months, has resulted in a staggering death toll of at least 18,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry.

Aid groups have raised alarms about the deteriorating humanitarian situation, describing it as “apocalyptic” and warning that Gaza is on the brink of being overwhelmed by disease and starvation.

Meanwhile, In the wake of the United States’ veto at the UN Security Council, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned the US, declaring it “responsible for the bloodshed” of children in the Gaza Strip.

The US veto blocked a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian territory during a special meeting.
