2024 has been labelled a “make-or-break” year for democracy, with crucial votes due in more than sixty countries.
The initial challenge of navigating AI-fueled disinformation has already occurred, evident in the proliferation of manipulated images, such as the fake arrest of Donald Trump and the fictitious announcement by Joe Biden regarding a general mobilization for Ukraine.
These incidents underscore the rapid progress of technology, eliminating traditional red flags like AI’s previous struggles with intricate details such as fingers and complicating detection methods. The World Economic Forum (WEF) has identified disinformation as the foremost threat for the next two years.
