ISLAMABAD: Twitter’s new boss, Elon Musk, has asked users whether the microblogging platform should offer a “general amnesty” to those suspended accounts that didn’t break the law or engage in spamming outrageously.

Musk’s poll has amassed over 2.5 million votes with 10 hours still to go.

Musk recently used the same method to reinstate former US President Donald Trump back on the social media platform. Twitter had permanently banned the former American president for supporting the violent assault on the US Capitol, citing “severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy.”

However, Trump has not yet made any tweet after his account was revived.

Musk created the polls in response to criticism that his standards for content moderation have been subject to his personal whim and that he chooses some accounts to restore while rejecting others.

Earlier, the billionaire had started rolling out the unbans of high-profile users, including controversial Canadian podcaster Jordan Peterson, the right-leaning satire website Babylon Bee and comedian Kathy Griffin.

After acquiring the firm for $44 billion, the CEO has drawn criticism for introducing significant changes to the California-based company.
