LONDON: Social media platform X, formerly twitter owned by billionaire Elon Musk has officially removed headlines from links in the latest move to change the layout of its site.

After the development the platform is now only showing the article’s main image and text while users have to click on the image if they want to visit the main page.

The move comes weeks after Elon Musk, announced his desire to make the platform “look better.”

Musk in a post said that: This is coming from me directly, will greatly improve the aesthetics.

Musk has been a strong critic of news organizations, tweeting this week that he almost never reads legacy news anymore.

The change was made on Wednesday for iOS and desktop users, but the change did not apply to advertisement links.

News organizations have expressed concerned about the change, saying that it will affect engagement rates negatively.

They also said that the step shows Musk’s hostility toward news organizations.

Last year when Musk took over Twitter, now X, in a $44 billion deal several media outlets had withdrawn from the platform, accusing the company of censorship.

In August, X briefly put a five-second delay on loading links to news sites and rivals to X. In April Musk targeted several outlets stripping them of their blue tick.
