Enforcement by Punjab Police Against Kite Flying Persists

LAHORE: In response to directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Police has launched a targeted campaign against the perilous activity of kite flying, prioritizing public safety.

This crackdown, aimed at deterring the use of metal strings and irresponsible kite flying practices, has resulted in significant enforcement actions across the province. Recent developments indicate that over 15,000 motorcycle riders have been equipped with safety wire-guards as part of ongoing efforts to prevent accidents caused by kite strings. Furthermore, more than 10,000 motorcycles have already been outfitted with protective wire-guards.

The operations wing of the police department, in conjunction with traffic police, has distributed a substantial number of safety wire-guards among motorcycle riders, with the operations wing distributing over 76,000 and traffic police distributing 31,000, respectively.

Simultaneously, Punjab police reported the apprehension of 30 individuals under the kite flying act within the last 24 hours, resulting in the registration of 30 corresponding cases across the province. Seizures included 4,368 kites and 1,073 spinning wheels recovered from the possession of the accused, underscoring the magnitude of the enforcement endeavors.

Over a broader timeframe spanning 36 days, a total of 3,659 suspects have been detained, and 3,526 cases filed under the anti-kite flying act, encompassing areas such as Lahore. The recovery of 223,881 kites and 15,799 spinning wheels was also reported.
