Ethiopian Ambassador Announces Mobilization of Another Pakistani Business Delegation

ISLAMABAD: Ethiopian ambassador to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula on Thursday announced to mobilisation another trade delegation of Pakistani businessmen to Ethiopia by May-end for further strengthening trade, business, and commercial connections between the two nations.

Addressing the business community at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, the envoy recalled the experiences related to the first-ever trade delegation mobilized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad in March 2023.

The ambassador said that they received an overwhelming response to the first trade delegation which he called the Hijra Trip to Ethiopia which enabled the Pakistani business community to explore trade, business, and investment opportunities in Ethiopia.

He said over 75 businessmen participated in the first trade delegation to Ethiopia and got an opportunity not only to directly communicate with high-level government officials but also businessmen from the leading sectors.

The envoy urged the business community in Pakistan to become part of the Hijra Trip II and contribute to the efforts of the Ethiopian Embassy in establishing strong trade ties and partnerships between the two nations.

On the occasion, the envoy also underlined extraordinary trade and investment opportunities offered by the home-grown economy of Ethiopia in various economic sectors including agriculture and agro-processing, mining, ICT, manufacturing, and tourism.

Opportunities in Ethiopia

He said Ethiopia was producing clean, cheap, sustainable and affordable energy, exporting to its neighboring nations including Kenya, Djibouti, Sudan and others. Likewise, multiple incentives including one-window operation were introduced to facilitate the foreign direct investment in the country.

On the other hand, he said Pakistan also offered immense investment and trade opportunities to the business community of Ethiopia, particularly in the areas of agriculture, fertilizer, manufacturing, chemicals, surgical equipments, textile, pharmaceutical, automotive and others.

Speaking on the occasion, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh commended the socio-economic development in Ethiopia during the recent past, particularly under the leadership of Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

He expressed full support for the Embassy of Ethiopia in Islamabad for mobilizing the trade delegation being planned for May-end.
