LONDON: The use of extra CO2 in commercial greenhouses to help plant growth is being touted on different platforms of social media to falsely imply climate-change warnings are a “scam”. However, reacting over the development, several experts say while CO2 can aid some plants grow, that does not deny the role of the gas in triggering global warming in the world.
An image of a natural gas burner which creates CO2 – in a greenhouse has received over 1,000 shares from a social media group called “Climate Con”. Its caption stated that “plants adore CO2 as well as warmth” and that “We rely on plants for Oxygen, nature’s a pleasing thing.” A social media user said that this is all you need to realize that that green talk is a dodge.
It is accurate that in controlled environments, CO2 can enhance photosynthesis but on the scale of the whole planet, its contribution to global warming is ultimately bad for plants. Several commercial greenhouses do use CO2 to increase plant growth in controlled environments, but that does not deny that COs remains a main cause of global warming.
