Fact Check: Image Shows Eiffel Tower Ablaze

PARIS: The Eiffel Tower in Paris, was not set ablaze in January, despite a fake photo circulating on different platforms of social media. The photo, opens new tab shows the Parisian landmark on fire with plumes of smoke billowing from the building, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, no report of fire is listed on police website in Paris. Some section of western media reported that the press did not find any credible report that the building was ablaze.

A spokesperson for the Eiffel Tower did not immediately reply to media reports for comment over the matter.

Therefore, Reuters claimed that there was no such fire and the photo circulating on social media was fake.  One of the world’s most-visited spots, the Eiffel Tower is open 365 days a year and is likely to play a main role in the 2024 Paris Olympics.  The attraction usually sees regarding around 20,000 visitors per day, said the officials.

Western media reported that tourists flocked to monuments to capture Paris’s snow blanket as it dazzled in the sun on Thursday.

The snow is not likely to survive the weekend, however, with temperatures expected to hit 16C, local media reported.
