Fact Check: Reports About Circulation of Banknotes

VIENTIANE: The Lao central bank, the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL), has warned the citizens to be aware of the circulation of fake banknotes, local media reported on Tuesday.

The BOL has also issued a notice asking the public to be cautious against fake currency notes following the distribution of fake 50,000-kip notes of the 2004 edition was detected in the northern part of Laos, media reported.

The BOL also urged the public to provide further information and details if any suspicious cases are found. People can also report the detection of fake notes at various commercial banks nationwide.

The central bank is also cooperating with the relevant officials to quickly implement steps as defined in the laws of Laos to take action against the elements creating chaos and breaking the law by circulating counterfeit notes.
