ISLAMABAD: The seventh death anniversary of popular Pakistani singer-turned-religious scholar and Na’at Khwan Junaid Jamshed is being observed today (Thursday).

Junaid Jamshed, widely known for his iconic song “Dil Dil Pakistan,” tragically lost his life on this day in 2016, along with his wife and 45 others in a devastating plane crash near Havelian.

People from diverse backgrounds, particularly fans utilizing various media platforms, are paying heartfelt tributes to the departed soul, reminiscing about their cherished memories of him.

Born on September 3, 1964, in Karachi, Junaid Jamshed initially pursued a career as a civilian contractor and engineer for the Pakistan Air Force before transitioning to become a singer. As a singer-songwriter, television personality, fashion designer, actor, and preacher, Jamshed gained national and international recognition as the vocalist of Vital Signs.

His 1987 album, “Vital Signs 1,” featuring hit singles like ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ and ‘Tum Mil Gaye,’ played a pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s rock music industry. Junaid released his debut solo album, “Junaid of Vital Signs,” in 1994, followed by “Us Rah Par” in 1999 and “Dil Ki Baat” in 2002.

In 2004, Jamshed decided to leave both his engineering and music careers to focus on religious activities for Islam. He began reciting nasheeds on TV and releasing them on CDs. Additionally, he owned a clothing boutique named ‘J.’ with numerous outlets across Pakistan and abroad.

In November 2014, Junaid Jamshed faced accusations of blasphemy, for which he later apologized in December 2014 through a video message, expressing regret for any offense caused.

On December 7, 2016, Junaid Jamshed and his wife were on PIA flight 661, which crashed in Havelian. They lost their lives in the crash while returning to Islamabad from Chitral, where Junaid had been on a Tablighi Jamaat mission.
