MIAMI: Banned former vice-president of FIFA Jack Warner has lost his appeal against extradition to the United States (US) but vowed to fight against charges of corruption.

Former Official of FIFA Voted Qatar to Host Football World Cup in 2022

Jack Warner had served as a member of FIFA’s Executive Committee in the past and voted Qatar to host the world cup 2022. It may be recalled that the US Department of Justice had indicted Warner in May 2015 and also issued an arrest warrant against him in connection with an alleged corruption case.

FIFA’s ethics committee imposed a ban against Warner in September 2015. He was banned for life from all football activities. The ethics committee said that in his positions as an official of football, Warner was an important player in schemes making the offer, acceptance, and receipt of undisclosed, illegal payments and other money-making schemes.

However, Warner said that the legal moves against him were linked to England and the United States (US) losing their bids to host the World Cups in 2018 and 2022. He said that the US and the UK, who had previously hosted the mega event of football, were not selected and they were not pleased and began a campaign against it. This forced the arrest and prosecution of several Executive Committee members of FIFA, he added. Warner raised his objection to extradition to the US and said he had no banking account or property in the US. APP
