DUBAI: In a significant achievement for Sudanese cinema, the movie “Goodbye Julia” by filmmaker Mohamed Kordofani secured the Audience Award for Best Fiction Feature at the prestigious Leeds International Film Festival in the UK.

This accolade adds to the film’s growing list of recognitions, highlighting its impact on global audiences.

“Goodbye Julia” weaves a poignant narrative around two Sudanese women, Mona, a retired singer haunted by guilt over a man’s death, and Julia, the widow of the deceased. Unaware of Mona’s role in her husband’s demise, Julia accepts a job as Mona’s maid, a gesture of atonement proposed by Mona. However, complications arise as Mona’s husband, Akram, openly expresses his resentment towards southerners, creating tension within the storyline.
