ISLAMABAD: A new virtual women’s police station was inaugurated in Punjab, province of Pakistan aiming to help women without them needing to physically visit a police station, local media reported on Thursday.

According to a local news channel, the in-charge of the Virtual Women Police station, Aqsa Fayaz, said, “Women can report complaints anonymously, and also trained IT graduates are there to help.”

It is connected to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and offers various means for women to seek support, including through a dedicated hotline, a safety application, and a video call feature. Additionally, emergency panic buttons had also been installed across Lahore for immediate support and help. Complaint procedures were also in place, permitting anonymous reporting.

The Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the service and launched free Wi-Fi at over 50 locations in Lahore.  This step aimed to make services more efficient and accessible for the public.
