PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Monday that heavy downpours in the province had caused landslides and floods, resulting in five casualties and road damage in Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Mansehra, and Upper Kohistan.

According to the PDMA, at least five people were killed and six injured, with 100 cattle perishing. Additionally, 42 houses, four schools, and six other buildings were damaged in various incidents reported from Bajaur, Battagram, Mansehra, Buner, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Lower Chitral, Malakand, Mohmand, Nowshera, Orakzai, Shangla, Swat, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir due to widespread rain.

The report stated that several roads were blocked or affected, including the Shishiko-Madaklasht Road, Chitral-Garamchashma Road, and Ayun-Bumborate Bobash Road in Lower Chitral. In Upper Dir, roads like Chukyatan-Sheringal, Shalgah-Bedami, Thall Jandrai, Bandai to Buchail, and Sheringal-Douangdara were affected.

In Mansehra, heavy rain caused the Link road to Bhandhian to be washed away, while the Karakoram Highway (KKH) was blocked at RD-311 near Bodha Bridge in Upper Kohistan.

The district administrations, along with highway authorities, have commenced restoration work on all damaged roads and have assured that the road links will soon be reopened for traffic.
