FM Urges Banks to Aid in Priority Sector Development: Report

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called upon the banks to bolster the government’s developmental objectives in priority sectors, local media reported on Saturday. He expressed these remarks during a meeting in Karachi with the representatives of banks.

The Minister urged the banks to improve financing to main sectors such as small and medium enterprises, agriculture, and Information Technology.

Accompanied by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmed, the Minister held talks with CEOs and Presidents of various prominent banks in the country. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to cooperating closely with the banking sector to meet the financing needs of pivotal sectors.

Muhammad Aurangzeb also urged the Pakistan Banks’ Association to lead a task force comprising representatives from the government officials, banking sector, and main stakeholders.

He said that their mandate would be to craft strategies aimed at overcoming prevailing challenges and problems obstructing the development of priority sectors.
