ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast: Nigeria and South Africa will clash in the first semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football match at 1700 (GMT) on Wednesday.

The match will be played in Bouake.

The other semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be played between Ivory Coast and Democratic Republic of Congo at2000 (GMT) in Abidjan.

Goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams was the hero with four saves in the shootout as South Africa beat Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties to reach the semi-finals after a goalless draw in their last eight matches.

However, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Williams, 32, refused to take all the credit for his heroics and instead nodded to the South African team from behind the scenes.

South Africa advanced to their first AFCON semi-final since what can be called their glory days, when they won the title as hosts in 1996, finished as runners-up in 1998 and finished third in 2000.
