Several people related to Pervez Elahi are being investigated following the end of his tenure as chief minister Punjab. Last week, anti-corruption watchdog Punjab’s registered a case against Pervez Elahi’s ex-principal secretary Mohammad Khan Bhatti for allegedly taking bribes.

In the first information report registered by the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab, Bhatti has been accused of receiving over Rs460 million as bribe from officials of the Punjab highway department. SDO Highway Rana Muhammad Iqbal has already been arrested on charges of bribery while the the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab has also started the process to arrest Bhatti in the case. The FIR said Rana Iqbal bribed Bhatti to get postings of his choice.

The development came a day after the former Punjab chief minister Pervez Elahi’s gunman and driver were arrested for allegedly carrying liquor in Islamabad.

The Islamabad police claimed the accused gave an envelope full of cash to Faheem Mirza, an employee of the Punjab House for a briefcase containing liquor bottles on “Elahi’s instructions”.

The police further said that the accused have also revealed before the magistrate that Faheem and Irshad, the alleged employees of Punjab House in Islamabad, were frontmen of former chief minister Ch. Pervez Elahi. Both the alleged frontmen were also involved in monetary transactions for Elahi, they claimed. A case has been registered against the accused at Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station under various sections of the law.
