ISLAMABAD: The investigations into the deadly terrorist attack have taken a new turn after former President of Lanka Maithripala Sirisena has revealed that he was aware of the masterminds behind the attacks pointing fingers towards Indian Intelligence agency, RAW.

The Modi-led Indian government is dangerously targeting individuals globally, as evidenced by recent incidents like the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and the attempted murder of Gurpat Singh via Nikhel Gupta in the US, while deflecting blame onto rogue elements within Indian agencies.

On April 21, 2019, a group of Sri Lankans inspired by the ISIL group carried out six simultaneous suicide bombings in three churches and three luxury hotels killing 269 people, including children.

Earlier, a British media report alleged a Sri Lankan intelligence official hatched the deadly Easter Sunday bombings plot to help former President Mahinda Rajapaksa capitalizing on ensuing chaos to win the election.

Church unhappy over the investigations

The Catholic Church in the Buddhist-majority country remains unhappy over the investigations, which they have labelled as a political cover-up to protect the powerful who could have planned the attack. Incumbent Sri Lankan government, under pressure from the UN and EU has allowed transparent and free investigations of the incident.

Recently, the investigations into the case took a new turn when former Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena revealed that he was aware of the masterminds behind the attacks. The CID/ police have recorded his statement questioned him for over five hours.

When he came out of the police office he said, he fears RAW would eliminate him. A week earlier, he was ready to make a formal statement in court but yesterday on 4th April, he succumbed to different pressure and refused to appear in the court.

A defense official on the condition of anonymity told local media that here in the intelligence community, everyone knows that Indian intelligence agency RAW was behind the deadly terrorist attack in connivance with one rouge intelligence officer of Sri Lanka to help win Indian favorite candidates and stop Chinese investment in Colombo.

The UN and European Union are aggressively pursuing a transparent investigation. It is hoped that important witnesses would be provided proper security and the investigations will identify the perpetrators of tragic killing. This may also help check Modi government’s meddling in foreign governments, particularly in its smaller South Asian neighbors.
