Four cases of JN1 Covid Variant Reported in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Four cases of a new variant of Corona, JN1 virus, an Omicron sub-variant, have been reported in Pakistan.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health on Sunday, all the infected patients had mild symptoms of the new coronavirus variant.

He added that all the patients have fully recovered without any complications. The spokesperson further said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has named JN.1 as a variant of interest.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan added the government is monitoring the situation closely.

He said that the border health services, national and provincial health authorities’ labs are fully operational to monitor the disease.

The minister said all international airports have an effective screening system at entrances and exits.

While responding to the evolving situation, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has taken proactive measures, deciding to implement COVID testing for all incoming passengers from abroad.

This move aims to bolster efforts in monitoring and preventing the potential spread of new variants within the country.

Health authorities are actively collaborating to safeguard public health and curb the spread of the virus.
