ISLAMABAD: Microsoft has shaken the video game world while flexing muscles in making some once-exclusive Xbox video games available for play on competing consoles.

Xbox head Phil Spencer did not mention about which of the titles were expanding beyond the Xbox, but sources said would be “Hi-Fi Rush”, “Pentiment”, “Sea of Thieves” and “Grounded.”

Talking in a podcast Spencer said that he had a fundamental belief that in the next five or ten years, games that are exclusive to one piece of hardware are going to be a smaller and smaller part of the game industry

He further said that Xbox had no intention to change its “fundamental exclusive strategy while taking four games to other consoles adding that if anyone on those other platforms while seeing these four games coming, they should not take it as some signal that everything’s coming.

The development comes as Microsoft looks to enhance Xbox sales that have lagged those of Sony PlayStation consoles, and to upgrade revenue from subscriptions to its cloud gaming service.

By putting its weight behind software and subscriptions, Xbox trying to match the success of streaming giant Netflix which overturned the TV and film industry.

Microsoft makes Xbox consoles along with game software, having titles such as hit “Halo” exclusive to its hardware.

Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo have long competed to be the console of choice with exclusive blockbuster titles from their own studios or in deals with other game architects.
