PARIS: According to Fox News, Olympic icon Gabby Douglas reentered the world of gymnastics after an eight-year hiatus, showcasing her skills at the American Classic on Saturday. Douglas, who made history as the first Black woman to clinch the Olympic all-around title at the 2012 London Games, achieved a commendable score of 50.65 in the all-around competition. Her standout performance came with a flawless double-twisting Yurchenko on the vault, showcasing her prowess in the event.

Recent reports confirm her qualification for multiple events at the upcoming US Championships slated for next month. Douglas, whose last competitive appearance was at the 2016 Rio Olympics, contributed significantly to the United States’ team triumph, a follow-up to their 2012 victory in London. Notably, she also secured an all-around gold medal during the London Games.

Despite taking a hiatus from gymnastics, Douglas never formally retired, expressing her desire to represent the USA once more. “I would just love to go back out there and represent USA just one more time and just to have that feeling of being a part of something, being a part of a team again, would be amazing and a huge honor,” she conveyed in a statement to NBC Sports in February.

With the US Classic approaching in three weeks and the US Championships two weeks thereafter, Douglas gears up for the upcoming Olympic Trials in June, leading to the highly anticipated Olympics less than a month later.
