BRUSSELS: About Gaza’s 2.3 million populations lack sufficient food and face starvation a month into Israeli devastating siege of the Gaza Strip, a World Food Programme (WFP) official stated on Thursday. Humanitarian help has only trickled into the Gaza Strip since Israel started bombing the densely populated region after Hamas’ surprise attack on October 7. UN officials said the supplies and relief coming into Gaza are nowhere near to meet the people’ needs.

Kyung-nan Park, an official of the UN WFP said that before the war in Gaza 33 % of people were food insecure and now, we can safely say about 100 % are food insecure. She added that WFP needed 112 million dollars to be in position to reach 1.1 million population in the Gaza Strip in the next three months days. She added “They are facing the risk of famine”.

The UN official said that WFP also requires regular entry into the Gaza Strip and safe access inside to be in position to reach the population in need.

Kyung-nan Park said that now they were entering 40 to 50 trucks. She added that for just WFP food help, the WFP would need about 100 trucks a day to be able to provide meaningful humanitarian food to the population in the Gaza Strip.

Kyung-nan stated WFP staff in Gaza also did not have enough food to eat. “There is news that people going there, being in line for about 10 days and leaving empty handed,” she further said.
