GILGIT: The Government of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) has crafted a comprehensive strategy to effectively oversee and manage environmental concerns in tourist attractions facing heightened pressures.

The cabinet is expected to approve several essential projects in the coming days. These measures mark a crucial advancement in the fight against environmental problems in tourist-centric areas.

According to Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan Muhiudeen Wani’s official statement to the media, “One of the notable initiatives is the drafting of guidelines governing the establishment of tourist facilities within ecologically sensitive and essential zones.

“These guidelines were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business’ evaluation process,” he declared. He noted that they are expected to be implemented and enforced soon, pending final cabinet approval.

According to Secretary GB, the thorough master planning of ecologically sensitive and essential zones has set in motion a proactive approach towards sustainable environmental practices and the development of eco-friendly tourist sites. He claimed that after the PC II was approved, qualified consultants were hired to guide this project appropriately.

The Attabad Lake Area Master Plan is in its last stages of development and is awaiting cabinet approval, the Chief Secretary of GB said. He emphasized that the Skardu Development Authority is expected to give the master plan for the region the go-ahead, which is currently under deliberation. —APP
