German Train Drivers Announce Strike Over Salary Dispute

FRANKFURT: Train drivers from German rail company Deutsche Bahn have announced a sixth round of strikes from Monday till Wednesday in a dispute over salaries.

Germany has confronted strikes on several fronts, causing problems for millions of travelers and adding to the country’s economic problems at a time of looming economic recession.

Drivers’ union GDL on Sunday said that a 24-hour walkout at Deutsche Bahn’s cargo division would begin from Monday at 1700 GMT while another 24-hour strike of train drivers would commence on Tuesday morning at 0100 GMT.

Lufthansa’s cabin crew union this weekend, also asked on its members to strike at Lufthansa and CityLine airline on Tuesday and Wednesday to press their demands for higher wedges.
