TEHRAN: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called on Iran to contribute to the resolution of the crisis. The ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza has heightened concerns over the potential expansion of conflict to other areas, prompting diplomatic appeals for a political solution.

During a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Baerbock emphasized the necessity of addressing the Gaza crisis through political means. She expressed concerns about the widening scope of the conflict and stressed the importance of observing human rights principles.

Baerbock welcomed Iran’s assistance in reducing regional tensions, highlighting the critical role that diplomatic efforts can play in easing the crisis.

Amir Abdollahian drew attention to the ongoing impact of the conflict on Palestinian civilians, especially women and children in Gaza and the West Bank. He urged the international community to prioritize this significant human rights issue.

Iran Condemns Israeli Aggression in Gaza as Form of Genocide

Amir Abdollahian condemned the Israeli aggression in Gaza as a form of genocide and pointed to the root cause of the crisis. He proposed a political solution involving a United Nations-sponsored referendum among the original residents of Palestine, encompassing Christians, Muslims, and Jews.

The Gaza conflict erupted in early October when Hamas launched a surprise military operation against Israel in response to events such as the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Israeli settlers’ violence against Palestinians.

The Israeli bombardments in Gaza has resulted in a significant number of casualties and widespread destruction, with humanitarian organizations warning of a catastrophic situation in the densely populated Gaza Strip.
