Google Workers Protest Against Tech Company’s Project with Israel

WASHINGTON:  Hundreds of workers from technology giant Google have gathered outside company’s offices in the San Francisco city of US to protest its project with Israel, Western media reported on Friday.

They were demanding Google to cancel its $1.2 billion Nimbus Project with Israel that was launched in 2021 to provide cloud services to Tel Aviv.

The protestors were wrapped in sheets with writings against Israeli brutalities in Gaza.

One protestor said that brave workers of Google are taking a stand against Israeli crimes but the bad company profits of genocide.

Another protestor, a Google worker and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, said he was there in support of no technology for apartheid.

He said he was in opposition to Israel’s apartheid that violates rights of Palestinian and ends their lives.

The protestors were also carrying Palestinian flags and chanted slogans against Israel. They had placards saying “Drop Project Nimbus,” “Don’t Be Evil=Don’t Support Genocide,” “No Tech for Genocide” and “No Tech for Apartheid”.

An official from Google said that the project will be used by Israel in the fields of health, transportation finance, and education, and it has nothing to do with the country’s military adventures.

According to Gaza health officials, Israeli bombardment has so far killed nearly 19,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.  According to UN estimates, up to 85 percent of the 2.3 million people in the Gaza have been displaced from their homes.

The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
