ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies for economic development and societal empowerment in a statement on Thursday.

Khawaja highlighted the government’s efforts to harness the potential of digital technologies in creating employment opportunities, expanding market reach, fostering innovation, and cultivating new economic sectors. She underscored the importance of empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and tech startups to accelerate the country’s transition to a digital economy.

Emphasizing the transformative power of digitalization, Khawaja emphasized its role in reshaping societies, driving growth, enhancing education and industry, and bolstering economic acceleration.

Khawaja particularly emphasized the significance of digital technologies in empowering young men and women politically, economically, and socially. She reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing digitalization across various sectors, with a special focus on strengthening cybersecurity and promoting financial inclusion through partnerships with relevant authorities.

Telecommunications, technology, and financial services were identified as key sectors requiring digital transformation to enhance global competitiveness. Khawaja highlighted the government’s efforts to address challenges and explore new opportunities to harness the benefits of technology for sustainable development.

Responding to concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media, Khawaja urged users to verify news stories and videos before sharing them. She emphasized the importance of using social media responsibly for positive activities and encouraged citizens to act as responsible users of digital platforms.
