Govt. Committed to Facilitate Hajj Pilgrims: Secretary Religious Affairs

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Religious Affairs Atta-ur-Rehman on Friday said that the government was fully committed to facilitating Hajj pilgrims.

Talking to state media he said that the ministry was gearing up for the preparation of Hajj 2024, as the balloting for Hajj 2024 was announced.

According to details, 69,438 applications were received under the Regular Hajj Scheme, and 63,805 of them came out to be successful in the balloting.

The secretary said a waiting list of 5,633 unsuccessful applicants has also been prepared. He further mentioned that by Pakistani authorities for the first time ever facilitating short Hajj.

In a move aimed at improving the pilgrims’ experience, the Secretary stressed the introduction of short-term Hajj facilities within Pakistan.

Under the scheme each pilgrim will receive a suitcase with a network SIM with a QR code, boosting security and preventing the misplacement of luggage.

He said the Ministry plans to give complimentary Pakistani flag-themed abayas for all women pilgrims, along with a free 7GB data card.

This year the training period has also been doubled, focusing more on practical training instead of lectures. Pilgrims will have to undergo training in camps with an emphasis on social interactions.

Atta-ur-Rehman said the Hajj package cost has been reduced one lakh rupees. Efforts are underway to minimize airline ticket expenses, especially those from Karachi.

He said that pilgrims were required to have two vaccinations, which will be available in the camp. He expressed gratitude for the aid the Saudi Arabian government had given and mentioned the possibility of more relief in a number of sectors.
