CAIRO – A Hamas official informed Reuters on Monday that the latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo, attended by delegations from Israel, Qatar, and the United States, did not yield any progress.

“There is no change in position of occupation besides there is nothing new in Cairo talks,” stated the Hamas official, who declined to give his name.

He added, “There is no progress yet.” Earlier today, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al-Qahera News TV channel cited a senior Egyptian source indicating that progress had been achieved in the discussions, following agreement among participating delegations on the matters under consideration.

Israel and Hamas dispatched teams to Egypt on Sunday following the arrival of CIA Director William Burns on Saturday, underscoring U.S. efforts to secure a resolution that would facilitate the release of hostages held in Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

Israel and Hamas, engaged in conflict in the Gaza Strip since October, have yet to resolve disagreements over their core demands.

Hamas seeks an end to Israel’s offensive and a complete Israeli withdrawal from the affected region, while Israel aims for an agreement to release hostages from Gaza in exchange for certain Palestinians held in its prisons, without committing to ending the conflict.
