HONOLULU: Hawaii is the first state legislature in the United States to call for a permanent and immediate truce in the current war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Known as the Hawaii Ceasefire Resolution, the state House and Senate passed the step last week. According to the resolution, the Aloha State legislators are demanding that Biden’s administration “facilitate the de-escalation of hostilities to end the violence, promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian help into the Gaza Strip, including food, fuel, medical supplies and water, and start talks for lasting peace.”

Brutal military assaults on Gaza by Israel have led to more than 34,000 deaths, the local health ministry said. The war has also displaced about all of its 2.3 million population, widespread hunger and led to genocide.

Meanwhile, dozens of Democratic lawmakers in the United States have also written a letter to Biden insisting that the current Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid and help entering the Gaza Strip “call into question” their compliance with the law of the US.
