MIRPUR: Heavy rain with snowfall for the third consecutive day disrupted normal life in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), particularly in the upper regions, including the scenic Neelam and Leepa valleys on Monday.

Traffic on roads in the Neelam and Leepa valleys and Mahmood Galli – Abbaspur Road in the Poonch Division has been suspended because of heavy snowfall.

Several areas in Rawalakot, Mirpur, and Muzaffarabad divisions were cut off as roads were closed due to the snowfall. Landslides were also reported in snow-clad upper areas, impacting road connectivity.

Electricity breakdowns in major towns further disrupted routine life.

Heavy Rains in Mirpur

Mirpur witnessed heavy downpours for the third consecutive day, accompanied by windstorms, affecting electricity, telecommunications, and roads. Uprooted trees and electricity poles added to the difficulties of residents particularly in Mirpur city.

The heavy rainfall intensified the chilly cold weather, compelling residents to wear heavy winter clothing. Construction laborers were significantly affected by the severe weather conditions.

The Meteorological Office has predicted more rain and snowfall in the upper areas of AJK in the next 24 hours.
