ISLAMABAD: The first consignment of high-breed cattle imported from Brazil under the Special Investment Council (SIFC) reached Pakistan here on Saturday. The move would contribute to the improvement of the Green Pakistan Livestock Initiative (GPLI) established under the SIFC.

The superior genetic characteristics castles would be supplied to local farmers for the fulfilment of their meat and milk requirements. The imported cattle of the nine breeds comprise local breeds of Pakistan and Brazilian breeds.

Soon after the arrival, these cattle were transported from Sialkot to Okara, where they would be kept in quarantine for two weeks.

Under the agreement, Pakistan imported nine breeds of cattle from Brazil, where a company FONGROW, which was established under the Green Pakistan Initiative, played a vital role in the agreement.

During an interview, Brazilian Ambassador Olyntho Vieira stated that there was a great potential for bilateral trade between Pakistan and Brazil adding that red Sindhi cattle were taken from Pakistan to Brazil in the 1950s and the breed has been preserved to date.
