SANA: Yemen’s Houthi group claimed responsibility on Sunday for targeting Israeli and British ships in the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea with missiles, as part of their ongoing operations against Israeli-linked vessels.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree stated that they fired missiles at the MSC GINA and MSC GRACE F ships in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, achieving their objectives.

Additionally, the Houthis reported targeting the British vessel Hope Island with maritime missiles in the Red Sea, resulting in a direct hit. Saree emphasized that these actions are intended to prevent Israeli navigation in strategic waterways until Israeli aggression against Gaza ends and the siege is lifted.

Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the Houthi claims regarding the ship attacks.

The Houthis have been actively targeting Israeli-affiliated cargo ships in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where significant casualties have been reported since October 7, 2023, amid Israeli military operations.

In response to Houthi attacks on shipping, the US and UK commenced airstrikes on Houthi sites in Yemen from January 12, aiming to deter further maritime assaults. The Red Sea, crucial for global oil and fuel shipments, has become a focal point amid these developments.
