AL-MUKALLA: The Houthis have claimed victory against the US Navy in the Red Sea reiterating a warning of strikes against vessels bound for or with links to Israel, Yemeni media reported on Sunday.

The group said that the fourth phase of its pro-Palestine campaign would involve targeting all vessels going to Israel that came within range of their drones and missiles.

It noted that the US, UK, and navies of other Western countries stood helpless against their attacks.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea on Friday said strikes against Israeli ships would be expanded to the Mediterranean Sea. Attacks would be increased against all those companies interacting with Israel if the country carried out its planned attack on the Rafah city in Gaza.

Since November, the Houthis have carried out hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at commercial and navy ships in the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. They say the attacks are only aimed at ships linked with Israel to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

They have also fired at US and UK commercial and navy vessels in international waters near the coast of Yemen after the two countries conducted strikes against Houthis.

Houthi information minister Dhaif Allah Al-Shami, on Saturday, claimed the US was forced to withdraw its aircraft carrier and other warships from the Red Sea after failing to counter attacks of Houthis. He added new military offensive would start against Israeli ships in the Mediterranean in the coming days.

Yemen specialists are uncertain about Houthi assertions that they have weapons capable of targeting Israeli ships in the Mediterranean.
