SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Group of South Korea said Thursday that it will invest strategically in Tenstorrent, an artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor startup company.

As the lead investor in Tenstorrent’s most recent investment round of $100 million, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corp. will contribute 50 million US dollars to the Canadian company. According to the firm, the funding will hasten Tenstorrent’s plans for machine learning (ML) software and the research and development of AI chipsets.

It was mentioned that the recently created high-performance semiconductors will be used in future automobiles and mobility solutions’ CPUs and neural processing units (NPUs). Hyundai’s semiconductor development unit, which it formed earlier this year, aims to improve chip capability through strategic partnerships with outside partners by creating specialized chips for its vehicles. —Xinhua/APP
