ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking removal of Imran Khan as chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The petition was filed following Imran Khan’s disqualification in the Tosha Khana case by the ECP. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the case, which was also attended by Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Gohar.

ECP refutes PTI’s claim

During the proceeding, Barrister Gohar argued that the high court had restrained the Election Commission of Pakistan from taking any strict action against his client. However, the Chief Election Commissioner challenged the claim, saying that no such court order existed.

The petitioner, Afaq Ahmed, also appeared before the Commission and accused the ECP of sending notices at the wrong address. The CEC responded by stating that the petitioner cannot pressure the Commission by speaking louder and ordered the security personnel to get the lawyer out of the room. After the conclusion of the arguments, the Election Commission dismissed the petition.
