NEW DEHLI: Mumbai Police have launched an inquiry into the alleged murder of a woman by her three-year live-in partner.

On Wednesday, Saraswati Vaidya, 32, was discovered dead at her flat in the Mira Road district. Manoj Sane, her partner, has been arrested on murder charges. The police said the accused “brutally killed” Vaidya and dismembered her body. Sane is now in jail and has not made any public statement, the BBC said.

Police said that they reached Sane’s flat on Wednesday evening after some building residents complained about a foul smell’ emanating from the house. They discovered Vaidya’s decaying body, which had been cut into many parts, inside the flat.

‘’Fridge Muder’’ in India

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajbale, they are examining the motive for the murder and how it was carried out. They suspect he cut the woman’s body into pieces so he could dispose of them easily.

Police believe the murder occurred two to three days ago and have gathered proof for forensic analysis. According to Bajbale, the situation is highly concerning and they are committed to finding justice for Vaidya. The murder has made news in India, owing to the fact that it occurred only seven months after another guy, Aftab Poonawala, was arrested on allegations of murdering his live-in partner in the same manner.

Poonawala, 28, allegedly murdered 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar last May, cut up her body into dozens of pieces, stored them in his house fridge, and then went around disposing of them in various locations of the city. Because of the sensational claims made by the police, the case – called “fridge murder” – grabbed headlines in India for weeks.
