ISLAMABAD: India has escalated its nefarious propaganda campaign against Pakistan, employing various tactics and platforms to disseminate misinformation and disinformation. This systematic Indian effort, driven by biased narratives and fake information, has flooded multiple channels, including traditional media, social media, and educational institutions.

The roots of Indian propaganda trace back to the British colonial era, but its recent resurgence and sophistication have been particularly notable under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Utilizing propaganda as a tool, the BJP has advanced its Hindu nationalist agenda, often at the expense of demonizing opponents, especially Muslims and Pakistan. Furthermore, the Hindutva Indian regime has been using propaganda as a smokescreen to divert attention from internal failures and challenges faced by the Indian government.

Indian Propaganda’s Strategic Objectives

India’s propaganda machine operates with several key objectives. One of its recurring themes involves portraying Muslims as terrorists and branding Pakistan as a state sponsoring terrorism. This narrative finds prominence in Indian media and cinema, aimed to perpetuated negative stereotypes and promote division.

Distorting historical facts is another tactic employed by Indian propaganda. For instance, the Bollywood film “The Kashmir Files” has faced criticism for allegedly fueling Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiments by depicting Kashmiri pundits as victims.

Additionally, New Delhi’s propaganda machinery promotes the notion that India is a victim of terrorism and narco-terrorism. This narrative often serves as a pretext for India’s aggressive military posturing, particularly in the context of the disputed territory of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

India’s propaganda apparatus also glorifies its military prowess, exaggerating its capabilities to instill national pride and garner political support for the government. This cultivation of a hyper-nationalistic sentiment further polarizes public opinion and may contribute to escalating conflicts.

Global Impact of Indian Propaganda and Challenges

The impact of Indian propaganda extends far beyond national borders. Its divisive narratives have sown seeds of polarization, leading to heightened tensions and, at times, violence. Moreover, this concerted effort hampers the resolution of longstanding disputes like the one in IIOJK, hindering peace-building efforts and understanding between India and its neighbors.

In light of these developments, it is imperative to critically assess the information disseminated by India’s propaganda machinery. Raising awareness about the deceptive tactics employed and encouraging a discerning public can serve as a bulwark against the spread of misinformation and foster international understanding and cooperation.
