SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: In a scathing critique, Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar, Vice Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned the Indian judiciary, alleging it serves as a puppet for Hindutva elements.

He asserted that the Narendra Modi government manipulates the judiciary to undermine the rights of the people in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir region. Gulzar particularly criticized the recent Supreme Court verdict validating the government’s decision on August 5, 2019, calling it biased, anti-Muslim, and anti-Kashmir. He deemed the judgment a travesty of justice and a stain on the history of the judiciary.

Accusing the Modi-led government of exploiting the judiciary to advance its Hindutva agenda and curtail fundamental rights, Gulzar asserted that these courts act as facilitators for the government’s agenda. He highlighted the increasing saffronization of the Indian judiciary since Modi’s rise to power in 2014. Reminiscing about the historical bias of Indian courts against Kashmiris, Gulzar emphasized that they consistently delivered decisions in favor of the Indian government, citing the controversial hangings of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.

Gulzar vehemently rejected the Indian court’s verdict on the status of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that it lacks the right to make unilateral decisions about an internationally recognized disputed territory. He underscored the Kashmiris’ determination to preserve their unique identity and resistance against Indian military oppression. Paying tribute to the resilience of the Kashmiri people, Gulzar asserted that, despite facing oppression, they cannot be defeated, expressing confidence in their eventual freedom from Indian subjugation.

Additionally, he called upon the United Nations to hold India accountable for alleged war crimes in occupied Kashmir and expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its consistent support to the Kashmiri cause, considering it a source of strength for the Kashmiri people.
