KARACHI: An Indian passenger plane belonging to a private airline had to make an emergency landing in Karachi’s Jinnah Terminal International Airport after a medical emergency on board.

An IndiGo flight, with 163 passengers, was en route from New Delhi to Doha when it turned to Karachi after the pilot reported that a passenger “was not breathing and had no pulse”, authorities at the city’s airport said.

The plane landed at the Jinnah Terminal International Airport in Karachi around midnight but the passenger, a 60-year-old Nigerian national (identified as Abdullah), was declared dead upon examination.

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority said the passenger felt unwell mid-journey, after which the captain of the plane contacted the Karachi air traffic control and requested for a doctor and an ambulance.

IndiGo expresses grief

“We are deeply saddened by the news and our prayers and wishes are with his family and loved ones,” IndiGo said in a statement expressing grief on the passenger’s death.

The plane flew off to its destination four hours after making the landing.
